The Irish Cancer Society will soon launch its new flagship research programme, the Collaborative Cancer Survivorship Research Centre.

This is envisaged to be a multi-million euro investment to serve as a catalyst to establishing a world-class, multi-institutional, and multi-disciplinary national cancer research collaboration for up to five years that is scientifically and practically impactful for people affected by cancer in Ireland.

In advance of this launch, we are holding a pre-application briefing session on Monday 29 November (15:00 – 16:00) to outline the application requirements and procedure, and to answer questions. Applications for this award are expected to open in December 2021 for a project of up to 5 years duration commencing in Q4 2022.

Attendees will be provided with a draft version of the application guidelines in advance of the meeting.

This event is open to those who might be able to lead or contribute to an ambitious project, such as:

  • Senior experts in cancer survivorship research and practice (e.g. social sciences, nursing, allied health, primary care, oncology clinicians, etc) based in Irish higher education institutions or public hospitals. This may include any aspect or age group of cancer care, including adults, paediatrics, geriatrics, palliative care. etc.
  • Cancer researchers with experience in leading/managing inter-institutional cancer research initiatives. This might include translational research in cases where such research may complement/add value the primary survivorship focus.
  • Representatives from Higher Education Institutions (e.g. Research Offices) or public hospitals (or hospital groups) who want to support those undertaking an application
  • People affected by cancer who are actively working to effect improvements in cancer survivorship, and key stakeholders of national health policy and cancer treatment.
