A-Z of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Course
This course provides a comprehensive outline of the current understanding of the causes, assessment and evidenced based treatments of the mental health conditions/diagnoses/illnesses that affect children and young people – including neurodevelopmental differences, mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis and eating disorders.
Who should apply?
This course is designed for those working with or involved with children and teenagers in professional healthcare settings. Learn how to recognise the symptoms and signs of mental ill-health and best practice approaches to support recovery.
What will you learn?
You will explore child and adolescent mental health through 8 key topics, by the end of this we hope you will be able to:
- Recognise the symptoms and signs of mental ill health in children and teenagers.
- Understand the diagnostic assessment processes.
- Understand the principles of risk assessment.
- Know the fundamental treatment principles utilised in child and adolescent mental health.
- Recognise the common therapeutic approaches applied in practice.
Syllabus
In order to achieve these goals, this course will cover 8 main areas:
Gold Standard Assessment Principles Practices
Risk Assessment and Management
Evidenced Based Treatment Principles and Practice
ADHD (causes, assessment, supports/treatment)
Neurodiversity including Autism (causes, assessment, supports/treatment)
Mood Disorders (topic will include non-affective psychoses) (causes, assessment, supports/treatment)
Anxiety Disorders (causes, assessment, supports/treatment)
Eating Disorders (causes, assessment, supports/treatment)
How will I benefit:
The course will help learners recognise and characterise the symptoms of specific mental health conditions and help the learner to support recovery through evidenced based practice.
How will I learn?
This course is delivered through online learning and will consist of specialist presentations and interactive discussions. It is entirely online.
