Launch of Irish Hospice Foundation’s Information and Support Line

IHF are delighted to announce the launch of Irish Hospice Foundation’s Information and Support Line service which has gone live on 30th October.

This service will provide a confidential service delivering signposting, practical supports and resources about end-of-life care, advance care planning and palliative care.  The freephone number for the line is 1800 60 70 66 and lines will be open from 9am-1pm Monday to Friday.

This initiative comes about because of a recommendation from IHF’s Dying Well at Home Focus Group Report which indicated that families and carers feel there is insufficient centralised access to information about key services and support for people caring for loved ones at the end of life.

As you know, access to information is a key factor in ensuring that people have the opportunity to make informed choices and are empowered to communicate what supports they would like at end of life. IHF is launching this service which can be utilised by members of the public, healthcare workers and the wider community.

The new Adult Palliative Care policy identifies Right Care and recognises the need for education and support for carers and families.  We hope this service will support families and carers to access services, supports and information and training resources that are but often can be difficult for families and carers to access. The support line will also provide valuable data on the lived experiences of people accessing information and services related to end-of-life care and how we can better advocate for their needs.

IHF will have posters and leaflets about this service available to all stakeholders, if you would like to enquire about this please send an email to [email protected]. Further details about the service are also available on our website at hospicefoundation.ie.

If you would like to contact IHF directly about any aspect of the Information and Support Line service please reach out to our Director of Healthcare, Siobhán Murphy, by emailing [email protected].
