Assessing Play ToP to TOES - Paediatric Occupational Therapy 2 Day Course UCC

CORK | 26 SEP 2019

This course provides participants with in-depth knowledge of two psychometrically-sound observational assessments of children’s play: The Test of Playfulness (ToP) and the Test of Environmental Supportiveness (TOES). The ToP is based on a conceptualisation of play that includes intrinsic motivation, internal control, the freedom to suspend some aspects of reality, and the ability to give and read cues. The TOES is set in the context of children’s motivations for play and examines the supportiveness of various aspects of the environment (i.e., space, play objects, playmates, caregivers) for helping children meet those motivations. This course will comprise small-group tasks followed by large-group discussion. Stimuli for the tasks will comprise video segments, short readings, short lecture, etc.

AMPS Interpretation

AMPS-2 Interpretation and Documentation days are intended to build on AMPS skills developed from using the assessment tool with clients in any area of clinical practice or research. Many occupational therapists attending an AMPS course focus mainly on administering and scoring the AMPS. Later as skills in administering the assessment increase, there is a need to learn more about interpreting, reporting and documenting AMPS results. These two separate but linked follow up days are intended to fill this gap. They can be attended separately (day one only) or together.
