This is a one day training course for HSCPs working with adults and children and is part of a joint CPD initiative hosted by IASLT and involving INDI, AOTI, IASW, Podiatry Ireland and others. Supported by funding from the National HSCP Office, priority is for those employed in publicly funded health care settings.
Please note - this course is supported by funding from the National HSCP office and places will be offered on a first come first served basis to HSCPs currently employed by and working in the public health sector (including HSE/S38/S39).
Participants will learn:
- The principles of Neuroaffirmative practice.
- Up-to-date terminology and resources relating to same.
- Practical elements of adapting your service to become Neuroaffirmative in practice.
- How to support families through a Neuroaffirmative assessment process.
- Post-assessment multidisciplinary support for children and their families - what post-assessment support should include and what should not be featured.
- Linking families in with the Autistic community - how to go about this.
- Discussion and questions from the audience.
- Links to resources and materials that are helpful in a Neuroaffirmative assessment process.
Speaker Bios:
Dr. Maeve Kavanagh is Co- Principal Clinical Psychologist at The Adult Autism Practice and co-founder of Childversity, a Neuro-Affirmative children's practice. She is an experienced clinician, who is highly skilled in collaborative autism assessments and has a strong commitment to promoting a neuro-affirmative approach.
Tara O’Donnell-Killen is the founder and CEO of Thriving Autistic, a nonprofit specialising in supporting the wellbeing of Autistic adults. She is a psychologist, researcher, lecturer & co-author of the Adult Autism Assessment Handbook: A Neurodiversity Affirmative Approach. Tara is also an Autistic parent of 3 Autistic children.
