Facilitated by Lisa Jamieson, this 1 day online training introduces the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and the corresponding assessment tools and resources.

The Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) explains how occupations are motivated, patterned, and performed within everyday environments (Kielhofner, 2008). https://moho-irm.uic.edu. MOHO provides an evidence-based, occupation centred model, which will structure an Occupational Therapists professional reasoning. This is crucial for Occupational Therapists who wish to keep occupation at the core of their work.

Aims

Participants will:

  • understand the core components of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO)

  • understand the range of assessments underpinned by MOHO

  • have an awareness of treatment approaches and resources underpinned by MOHunderstand when to draw on the theory, assessment tools, treatment approaches and resources to inform the Occupational Therapy process.

Course times:

29th October: 9.30 - 3.00

This training will be hosted online by the facilitator on MS Teams.

About the Facilitator

Lisa Jamieson is a registered Occupational Therapist, who trained at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and qualified in 2004. Lisa has predominantly worked in adult mental health and forensic services and currently works within the NHS within a prison setting. Lisa has a passion for the theory and tools that support occupation-centred practice and believes that a strong professional identity centred on occupation is imperative for services to maximise their impact. Lisa is aware of the negative service implications of compromised professional identity. This can include poor job satisfaction (Murray et al 2015), low professional visibility (Edwards & Dirette 2010), pressure to provide non-occupation-based practices (Devery et al, 2018) and therapists can move further away from core theories in search of more specialized roles (Turner & Knight 2015). Lisa has therefore developed several training packages which support therapists to use occupation-centred theory, assessments and interventions, to ensure occupation is central to practice, strengthening professional identity.

HCPC & ICO Registered Member of The Royal College of Occupational Therapists

Please Note: This training is not necessary to use MOHO theory and corresponding assessments, treatment approaches or resources. This training is designed to support an understanding of the theory and range of assessment tools, treatment approaches and resources underpinned by MOHO.

It is expected by UIC MOHO Clearinghouse that each Occupational Therapist planning to use any of the assessment tools requires their own manual. Manuals can be purchased from www.moho.uic.edu.
