         ‘Advancing the Role of Occupational Therapy in Supporting Adults with Intellectual Disability’

 09.30 – 09.45: Meet and Greet

 09.45 – 10.00: Introduction/background to UL/IDAG collaboration on 2023 survey

10.00 – 10.45: Research Findings from ‘Occupational Therapy Practice in Adults with ID Services’ survey, Sadhbh De Barra and Alanna Heraty, Final Year OT Students UL; Supervisor - Dr Pauline Boland, PhD, MHealSci,(Rehabilitation), BSc (Hons)OT, Lecturer and Course Director, UL School of OT.

10.45 – 11.15: Tea break

11.15 – 12.30: Developing the Occupational Therapy with Adults with ID Position Paper:

IDAG Consultation with members at the study day as part of the development of a position paper for occupational therapists working with adults with intellectual disability.   The position paper will give us a shared understanding and vision for occupational therapy service provision and advocate for the breadth / scope of practice that occupational therapy can provide.  From the findings and recommendations from ‘Occupational Therapy Practice in Adults with ID Services’ research, the plan is to work in small focus groups to discuss the areas to be explored in the position paper.

12.30 – 1.00: Update on IDAG projects

  • Progress Update on Mental Health Intellectual Disability working group to develop practice guidelines for occupational therapists working in MHID.
  • Progress Update on AOTI Working group on restrictive practice
  • Progess on developing an AOTI Accessible Consent document (for use when sharing data on social media / communication platforms)
  • Progress on development of an AOTI initiative to support OT practice in the area of ADM
  • IDAG contribution to AOTI working group on sensory rooms usage in schools

1.00  - 2.00: Lunch

2.00  - 2.45: ‘The Emerging Role of occupational therapy in the diagnostic process of the National Intellectual Disability Memory Service’ – Fiona Tobin, Clinical Specialist OT, NIDMS

2.45 – 3.15: IDAG AGM

 

Stewarts Care have staff parking, there is also public transport and parking on the main street.
